4 servings
450g of finely chopped ham
80g of tasty cheese, grated
1 onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon of chopped parsley
1 potato, grated
1 clove of garlic, crushed
½ cup of plain flour
4 eggs, lightly beaten
¼ cup of milk
Oil for shallow frying
🌽 Legacy Note: You can add a tiny tin of sweet corn kernels to the batter for a sweet, textured variation.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped ham, grated tasty cheese, finely chopped onion, chopped parsley, grated potato, and crushed garlic.
Gently sprinkle the plain flour over the ingredients and toss until everything is evenly coated.
In a separate jug, whisk together the lightly beaten eggs and the milk. Pour this wet mixture over the ham and vegetable mix, stirring well until a thick batter forms.
Heat a shallow layer of oil in a large frying pan over a medium-high heat.
Carefully drop large spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil, flattening them slightly with the back of your spoon.
Fry until the fritters are beautifully browned and cooked through on both sides. Transfer to a paper towel to drain briefly before serving.
The Tactile Prep: As you grate the potato and finely chop the ham and onion, notice the varying textures yielding under your hands. Let this manual act of preparation serve as an initial grounding point, rooting you in the immediate physical work of the hearth.
The Sensory Sizzle: When you drop the large spoonfuls of batter into the shallow oil, intentionally step away from the morning rush. Listen to the energetic, rhythmic sizzle and watch as the edges turn a crisp golden-brown. Breathe in the rich, savoury scent of the melting cheese and garlic, letting it serve as a sensory cue of care and continuity in your kitchen.
A Moment of Nourishment: Before you take your first bite, pause to acknowledge the warmth and abundance of the meal you have created. Recognize these simple fritters as a vital coordinate in your home's domestic rhythm—a deeply nourishing point of connection before the world of action begins.
